The Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts is coming to the end of its 25th Anniversary year. There is a lot to celebrate and be thankful for, while looking ahead to the future. It amazes me to realize that over the last 25 years we have organized and helped facilitate over 80 Creative Arts programs for people of all ages and abilities, and provided many workshops for teachers, early childhood educators, education students and parents.
Now it is time to – not sure what metaphor to use – spread my wings or pull in my wings, and pass on this vast experience to others.
2026 will be a year of transition:
We are mentoring several young people to take on the facilitation of the Creative Arts programs. We also encourage people to take on leading the Jam Dance that my husband Kim and I have been facilitating over the last 15 years. Jam Dance is an enlivening, fun improvisational movement event with live music; open to everyone!
The Alexander Society is poised to play a role in helping communities include and support people with disabilities to live, work and play in their own communities. This dovetails with the Provincial Government’s Remedy, the push to finally close institutions and welcome marginalized people into community.
Celebration:
Join us on Dec.7th to celebrate the Season with an Advent Candlelight Spiral ceremony. A spiral is created with fragrant evergreen boughs, in the centre of which is a burning candle. Individuals are invited to carry a candle into the spiral, light it, and place it along the path of the spiral. The warm glow of the candles gradually light up the room. This is accompanied by peaceful, contemplative, live music. People of all ages and abilities are invited to attend this beautiful event.
