Theatre Arts Build Community Capacities

We have learned over the past two and a half decades that Theatre Arts definitely Build Healthy Community Capacities – especially when they intentionally include and creatively integrate everyone. The beauty of Theatre Arts is that they can take many forms and include many types of artistic expression from visual to musical as well as poetry and dance, and do all this while drawing  from stories and styles of all world cultures, etc…

The mission of The Alexander Society is to offer programs that are inclusive and welcoming to everyone.  The Arts provide the perfect vehicle for creatively integrating people of diverse abilities.  The multi-sensory nature of the arts allows for the possibility of discovering and developing community capacities.  The arts foster language skills, social skills, development of motor skills and build confidence.  There are many opportunities to learn how to cooperate, to take on a character, to make decisions, and to be involved in a meaningful way.

Jam Dance is a program which invites all people to engage with each other in fun, gently guided  musical and physical improvisations.   We often use “Theatre Games” to help break down barriers between people and encourage everyone to play with each other.
